Town Council Tax Reduction 2008



BISHOP'S STORTFORD TOWN COUNCIL BUDGET 2008/2009


At the Bishop's Stortford Town Council meeting on Monday the 14th of January 2008, Bishop’s Stortford Town Council agreed the Budget for 2008/2009 - £1,152,350 (2007/2008 - £1,139,076) This equates to a reduction of Council tax of 1.6% - Based on the Band D equivalent:  (Band D Householders will be charged £75.52)

A REDUCTION on the Bishop's Stortford Town Council tax of 1.6%: (A band D equivalent reduction of £1.20)


Councillor John Wyllie, Bishop's Stortford Town Council Conservative Group Leader and Chairman of the Bishop's Stortford Town Council Finance Committee stated:

“I am pleased that whilst standard costs such as fuel, rates and wages are rising, Bishop’s Stortford Town Council Conservatives have managed to reduce the Band D Council Tax Charge. Bishop’s Stortford Town Council Conservative’s presented a budget that improves services and invests for the future, whilst managing to reduce the Council Tax burden on the residents of Bishop’s Stortford. This has been achieved by Councillors and Town Council Staff achieving efficiencies at all levels. I would like to thank the Bishop's Stortford Town Council staff for their hard work in ensuring that this reduction came to fruition. I would also like to congratulate the hard work done by all the staff of the Bishop's Stortford Rhodes Arts Complex, who have helped in the sucess of this venue, which is now bearing fruit. The grant provided to Rhodes has been reduced for the first time in many years. The charge for providing this valuable resource for the residents of the Town next year is 15.5p per resident per week.”
